The former SUNY Canton vice president who was tapped last month to become the college's acting president is the leading candidate for a college presidency in Oregon.

Jeremy Brown was set to take over as acting president of the Canton campus on June 1.
Portland Community College officials announced this week that Brown was their top choice for president and they expected to finalize his contract by mid-April.
His salary at Canton was set at $185,000 a year.
He was set to replace Carli Schiffner, who is SUNY Canton's interim president. She's leaving in July for a job in the state of Washington.
"It's regrettable that Dr. Brown's selection as acting president did not work out as hoped," said SUNY spokesperson Doyle Brown, "however the chancellor will act quickly to nominate a successor for board approval, and the search for a permanent president this fall will continue as planned."
Brown served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at SUNY Canton from 2003 to 2007.
Since then, he's been president of Dowling College and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
