Candle Blamed for Waddington House Fire

By Scott Atkinson

Investigators believe an unattended candle is to blame for a house fire in the town of Waddington Sunday morning.

It happened on McGinnis Road around 11:15 a.m. The owners, Ken and Tracy Mitchell, were not home at the time.

A neighbor had noticed smoke coming from the house and called 9-1-1.

Fire crews were able to contain most of the damage to the bedroom in which a candle was apparently left burning and caught nearby clothes on fire.

The home is insured.
