Canton Teens Go To Prom In Horse-Drawn Carriage

It was a ride to the high school prom that teenagers Jennifer Wilcox and Leamon Anson will remember for the rest of their lives.

"Might as well make a memory out of it - thought it'd be fun," said Anson.

With the help of his employer, local veterinarian Dr. Michael Smith, who owns several Belgian horses, Anson and his date were escorted to Saturday's Canton High School prom in a horse-drawn carriage.

"I knew there was a surprise, but I didn't know it was going to be this," said Wilcox.

Smith and his wife, Claudine, have been raising Belgian horses and have been across the country and Canada taking part in competitions for years.

Anson asked Dr. Smith if he could rent his truck for the prom.

"I said, 'I'll do you one better. We'll bring our surry in and team of horses and deliver you from the restaurant to the school for the prom," said Dr. Smith.

For the teens and the Smiths, it was a night never to be forgotten.
