Canton's New Police Chief Wants To Make Department More Visible
One of the first goals of Canton's new police chief is to make the department more accessible to the public.
Cheney was provisionally appointed chief to succeed Alan Mulkin, who retired last week.
Cheney began his career in law enforcement in Saranac Lake 21 years ago and has been with the Canton Police Department for 18 years.
He says he wanted to become a police officer as a young boy because he believes in and wanted to uphold the integrity, honesty and high standards that come with the job.
"I always like the image because a police officer is honest, they have good integrity and I like their moral values," he said.
"That's something that's always stuck with me and that's something I always wanted to be as a police officer."
