Car Fire Causes Barn Blaze

Firefighters say a barn fire in the town of Alexandria late last night started as a car fire.

Steven Denner's barn on County Route 2 is being called a total loss.

Authorities say a car caught fire and the flames sparked the barn.

At least three vehicles were badly damaged.

Firefighters say the conditions and location of the barn made fighting the fire very difficult.

"It's very tough, because where we are there's not a lot of water so we got to call a lot of trucks in and we gotta set up fill sites for everybody -- so, yes, it's pretty touch," said Plessis first assistant chief Lori Parrow.

"And this wind doesn't help any, either," she said.

The fire was contained to the barn. A house and other structures were not damaged.
