Carp Championship Attracts Anglers from Across the GlobeFishermen from all over the globe are in St. Lawrence County this week for the Carp Angling World Championship. "You just have lots of public access, bank space, a great environment with all the communities here, they have embraced carp fishing," said tournament director David Moore. The festivities began Friday at the Waddington Arena with registration. The actual fishing began on Sunday. The competition brought in over 60 two man teams from more than 15 countries. But the tournament is about more than just fishing for St. Lawrence County. The event helps boost the area economy too. "The last time we hosted the Carp Tournament, the anglers spent almost half a million dollars in a week, in our economy," said Pat McKeown, Executive Director of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. Waddington will be up to host the competition again in another five years. |
