Carthage Lions Collect Cans To Help People See

Tools

If you are looking for a place to put all those empty bottles and cans, the Carthage Lions Club can help you out.

That's because the club collects empties every first Saturday of every month.

The money is used to buy eyeglasses for people in the community who need them.

The club teamed up with Walmart in the town of LeRay, which provides free eye exams. They also provide the glasses to the Lions Club at a discounted price.

The glasses are free to those who need them.

Organizers say the service is much needed in Carthage.

"A lot of kids in school, a lot of elderly in the community, a lot of people who don't have good eyeglasses -- and so if we can help them out, then that's our goal," said Lions Club secretary Bruce Hazen.

If you want to find out how to receive a pair of glasses or donate, contact Hazen at 315-493-1694.
