A Carthage man was issued several traffic tickets in connection with an accident last Thursday in Lewis County which an Amish buggy was struck.

Steven J. Waite, 50, was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury to an animal, speed not reasonable and prudent, following too closely, and failure to use due care when approaching a horse.

Lewis County Sheriff's deputies said Waite contacted the sheriff's department after they issued an appeal following the accident, which was described at the time as a 'hit and run.'

Waite was travelling northbound in his pick-up truck on Route 12 in the Town of Lowville "when he struck the Amish buggy and left the scene," deputies said in a statement.

The man and the woman inside the buggy were not hurt, though the buggy was extensively damaged.
