History for sale. That was was the special in Chaumont Saturday.
An 1806 stone house on Main street in the village was the site of a huge auction Saturday. The owner, Richard Dunham, was selling just about everything from his late-father's six bedroom house. Including antiques from all over the world. That means oil paintings, Remington prints, sculptures, French porcelain, and Egyptian antiques. The house was also for sale and the owner wanted to make sure it went to a good buyer.
"My main focus is that it goes to someone who can appreciate the value of the house both historically and to the community of Chaumont," said Dunham.
Dunham ended up putting the winning $150,000 bid on the house after a series of low bids. The structure originally served as a tavern in early Chaumont.
