Chaumont Wants Opinions On Dissolving Village

Officials in Chaumont are looking for community feedback on dissolving the 138-year old village.

The village recently paid for a study to look at dissolving into the town of Lyme.

The concept of dissolving the village has drawn mixed reactions from town and village residents.

"My opinion is, if they can turn around and help the residents - lower their taxes - that would be awesome," said village resident Mary Petrie.

"I think for the village it'd be good, tax-wise," said town of Lyme resident Chrissy Tiff. "For outsiders, maybe not so much."

The dissolution committee gathered input and answered questions at a meeting Tuesday night.
