City Council Ballots Not Being Counted

Absentee ballots for the Watertown City Council primary are not being counted because of a mistake.

Jefferson County Board of Elections officials are now mailing out replacement ballots.

The original ballots had a mistake - instead of asking people to vote for two candidates, it directed people to vote for four.

"A vote for two versus a vote for four could change the outcome of the election mathematically...The county is not interested in having its elections called into doubt," said Jerry Eaton, Republican Elections Commissioner.

For your absentee ballot to count, it has to be postmarked by September 9, which the day before primary day.
