Watertown City Council Member Burns Charged With DWIA Watertown City Council member has been charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated after leaving Ives Hill Country Club Thursday night. Police say 51 year old Roxanne Burns was attending a party for retiring City Court Judge James Harberson. According to police, Burns allegedly drove into a railing at the club and left the scene. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in addition to the DWI. She was arrested, taken to the public safety building, then later released. Police say her blood alcohol content was .20 percent. Burns is scheduled to answer the charge in city court on December 21. 7 News contacted Burns, who said she has no comment. We also contacted other members of city council. Mayor Jeff Graham said Burns is a friend and a collegue, who obviously has to work through the issues related to this incident. He declined further comment. Councilwoman Teresa Macaluso said Burns had been beaten up enough and declined further comment. Councilman Jeff Smith had no comment. 7 News was unable to reach Councilman Joe Butler. |
