Clarkson Receives $2.2M To Renovate Unused Building
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is awarding Clarkson University $2.2 million for upgrading the university's Old Main building at its downtown Potsdam campus.
The money will be used to plan, design and install energy efficiency measures in the building, which is currently empty.
Clarkson plans to renovate the century-old building into a "green" data, research and education center for the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries.
Beacon, a subsidiary of Clarkson, is a think tank devoted to comprehensive real-time monitoring of the changing character of river environments.
It operates in both the Hudson Valley and in Potsdam.
The renovations are expected to begin in 2013 and cost a total of $8 million.
The NYPA portion will fund new windows, plus the replacement of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
