Going green is a key theme at Clarkson University in Potsdam.
Students and area residents recently toured several ongoing research projects at the university involving the use of biofuels.
Clarkson is using a small "digester" to convert more than 600 pounds of food waste into methane gas to heat a nearby greenhouse.
"We've got students doing research, we have students in classes participating in analyzing some of the data that are coming out of these systems," said Clarkson's Susan Powers, "but overall we're really trying to create an integrated system where we have no waste."
The tours are part of a sustainability week on campus.
On Wednesday, the students will sort through a day's worth of trash on the student center lawn to illustrate how people can make changes to reduce waste.
