Clarkson University Remembers Alumni Killed In 9/11 Attacks

It was a somber atmosphere at Clarkson University during a remembrance ceremony Friday as the campus community reflected on the lives lost in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Four Clarkson alumni, who were working in the World Trade Center when it was attacked, are among the thousands who lost their lives that day.

Several steel beams from the towers now stand as a sculpture on the campus as a memorial to those who died.

Marine Corps veteran Adam Pelletier, who served in the war in Iraq and is now a Clarkson student, spoke to the large gathering.

"Sometimes it seems as though we fell into a terrorism trap and as long as we keep trying to chase that elusive dragon, the pain and suffering is going to continue expanding," said Pelletier.

"We refused to bow to fear and fanaticism," said Steve Newkofsky, Vice President of Alumni Relations.

A number of local rescue squad, fire and law enforcement agencies were in attendance for the ceremony.

Clarkson was able to obtain the World Trade Center steel from the New York City Office of Emergency Management through the efforts of alum Michael Bielowa, who helped supervise the Ground Zero cleanup efforts.
