Clayton's New Hotel Begins Hiring Process

The 105-room luxury hotel overlooking the St Lawrence River is ten months into construction.

A rough winter slowed the work, but this week, the search was on for the people who will staff the hotel.

More than 150-people attended two job fairs this week at the nearby O-Brien's Restaurant, interviewing for jobs from dishwashers and housekeepers to engineers and management.

"We're looking for bubbly personalities, a person that smiles a lot," said Linda Hart Costello of Hart Hotels, Inc.

Hart Hotels wants to build a four-diamond property.

"We want to create an environment in Clayton that makes it a destination - a place that people enjoy coming to," said Alan Incorvaia of Hart Hotels, Inc.

The opening date of the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel could open as soon as July 1.

There are already six August weddings on the books.

"We're only taking reservations as of August for the moment, but we expect to move that up as construction gets closer. We don't want to over promise and under deliver," said Incorvaia.

The wages aren't set yet, but the job fair drew enthusiastic applicants.

"I am looking for a management position, front desk. I've been in the business for 30 years," said Laura Brown, an applicant.

The Harbor Hotel expects to have the new staff working by Memorial Day.
