Community Bank To Close HSBC Branches In Watertown, Lowville

Community Bank officials announced Tuesday they will close two former local HSBC branches, one in downtown Watertown, the other in Lowville.

The two branches will close Sept. 10. Officials say no employees will be laid off.

After it acquired several HSBC banks, Community Bank found itself with branches too close together.

"We looked at the proximity of these branches and decided this was the best way to efficiently serve our customers," said Community Bank president Mark Tryniski.

"We want to stress there will be no layoffs as a result of this consolidation move," he said.

In downtown Watertown, the HSBC location on Washington Street is just a few hundred feet from a Community Bank branch.

The building housing HSBC is locally owned and there are other offices in the building that should not be affected.

In Lowville, the former HSBC branch on South State Street will close. Customers will be able use the Community Bank branches on State Street and Turin Road.
