Congressional Candidate Says Petition Gathering Is Going Strong

He says he's the grassroots candidate for the 21st Congressional District.

St. Lawrence County's Joe Gilbert brought his campaign to Watertown Thursday.

He took a tour of the New Life Christian Church.

Gilbert is up against the better-known Elise Stefanik and Matt Doheny for the Republican nomination, but says his petition-gathering is going strong, leading up to a primary in June.

"I just believe that the final say should be the voter. That's how our democratic system is built so they'll have their say in June in the primary," said Gilbert.

There will also be a Democratic primary if Aaron Woolf and Steve Burke both get the necessary petition signatures.

Petitions have to be submitted to the Board of Elections by April 10.
