Congressman Owens Frustrated Over Fiscal Cliff Talks

Tools

If you're frustrated by the way Washington is handling the so-called "fiscal cliff," you're not alone.

North country Congressman Bill Owens is, too.

The Democrat says rank-and-file members aren't being given much information as Congressional leaders and President Obama quarrel over how to avoid the automatic tax hikes and spending cuts that are set to take effect in January.

"We don't really know what's going on in terms of serious negotiations behind the scenes. I certainly hope that's happening. But I don't have any indication that it is," said Owens.

Owens is calling for what he calls a rational compromise consisting of spending cuts and increased revenues, including a higher tax rate on the wealthy.
