Contents Of Newton Falls Mill Auctioned Off

It was a day local officials had hoped would never come as the machinery and equipment inside the Newton Falls Fine Paper Mill went on the auction block in Syracuse Thursday as part of a liquidation sale.

The mill's current owner, Scotia Investments of Nova Scotia, decided to liquidate the machinery and other inventory from the idled mill despite hopes by local officials that the mill could be sold intact.

Several pieces of equipment, including the mill's two papermaking machines and other key pieces of machinery, were auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The 4,000 acre property where the mill sits was not included in the auction and is being offered for sale privately.

The mill stopped operating in 2010 causing close to 100 workers to lose their jobs.

Efforts to restart the mill fell through last summer and it was put on the market.
