Continent-Crossing Cyclists Stop In Watertown

A group of 50 bicyclists took over Case Middle School in Watertown Thursday night.

The cyclists -- from Cycle America -- began their coast-to-coast ride in June in Everett, Washington.

Their visit to Watertown is during the second to last week on the tour.

They'll end up in Massachusetts on August 16. They spend nights at schools like Case along the way.

"We are a group of cyclists who are already enthusiasts -- people who ride a lot at home and have been riding for years, know the bikes and ride really well.

"They like to get together and do something unusual," he said. "It gets them away from home and they get to see the country, in this case, literally coast to coast."

The riders are from the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, Holland and Tazmania.

The bicyclists are expected to be in Lake Placid by Friday night.
