Contractors Volunteer To Fix Woman's Yard

Remember the St. Lawrence County woman who's landscaper dug up her yard and then disappeared with her money?  Well, she's getting some help thanks to two Good Samaritans.

Sonya Speer's back yard in Norfolk was a mess when we visited last week.

She said a contractor she had paid $9,300 started work, but never finished the job.

Thanks to Brian Haggett of Haggett Excavating of Norfolk, her yard is fixed.

Haggett saw our initial report and decided to step in and voluntarily complete the work.

He brought in his heavy equipment, workers and materials to do the job at no cost to the Speer family.

"It's kind of nice to do something that's not expected. It makes you feel good," said Haggett.

A second contractor, Northrup's Hilltop Nursery & Landscaping, intends to voluntarily bring in grass seed for the lawn.

"I've know the family for a long time and I just wanted to help them out," said Michael Northrop of Northrup's Hilltop Nursery & Landscaping.

A drainage problem at the front of the Trippanyville Road residence was also corrected by the Good Samaritan contractor.

"It really is amazing that there are really nice people...This is what, in my opinion, it takes to make a true community," said Speer.
