Copenhagen Students Place Flags On Veterans' Graves

Some students got a break in the school day Monday to recognize our veterans.

The second grade classes at Copenhagen placed flags on veterans' graves to get ready for Memorial Day.

Teachers say planting the flags at the cemetery gives them a chance to talk about civics and history with the students.

Classes have been making the walk to the cemetery for years and it has now become a Copenhagen tradition.

"We thought it would be good to support our veterans for fighting for us," said second grader Jaaven Kloster.

Members of the American Legion in Copenhagen say they give the cemetery a once-over to make sure the students didn't miss any graves, but they rarely find one.
