Council Moves Forward On Arena Renovation

Watertown city officials are moving forward with a plan to renovate the Fairgrounds Arena.

The revised plan from Stantec, a Rochester engineering firm, totals about $6.2 million. The work would include a new entrance, a main locker room, a hospitality room, and a new concession area.

Although the price tag has been reduced, it's still more than the city was hoping to spend. It's also anticipated the city will bond to pay for the project.

Stantec's original plan carried a price tag of $9 million to $11 million. In the second round, the cost was reduced to around $8 million.

The city council met with Stantec Monday night to review the latest plans.

City officials originally budget $4 million for the project.

Council members have said they would like to put the project out to bid in March.
