County Considers Hiring Part-Time Officers for Watertown Airport

Jefferson County is considering hiring part time officers as airport security at the Watertown International Airport.

The legislature is hoping to hire a pool of 8 to 10 former peace officers or corrections guards to guard the airport during flight times.  A combination of lack of manpower from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and a decrease in federal aid brought the county to this new plan.

There are two flights a day at the airport.  The officers would be required to be there an hour before flights and a half hour after.  They would be paid 18 to 19 dollars an hour and receive no fringe benefits.
