Update: Driver In Critical Condition After Adams Crash

A 23 year old Adams Center man was in critical condition Monday afternoon after a serious crash in the village of Adams.

Deputies said 23 year old Mikel S. Shook of Adams Center fled from a deputy who was trying to pull him over for speeding on Route 11 early Monday morning.

Shook lost control of  his Dodge pickup truck and went off the road near the intersection of North Main and Institution streets.

The vehicle rolled over and came to rest against a tree.

Sheriff John Burns said the vehicle was traveling at least 100 miles an hour. Burns said the deputy was going in the opposite direction from Shook's vehicle, and turned around to pursue Shook but came upon the accident, which had happened by then.

Shook was airlifted to Upstate Medical University of Syracuse for treatment. Monday afternoon, a hospital official said Shook was in critical condition.

Deputies continue to investigate the accident.

A section of downtown Adams was reopened after being blocked to traffic for several hours.
