Crews Fix Leaking Dam In Watertown

Construction crews are fixing an expensive problem in Watertown.

Acts II Construction of Gouverneur is repairing a leaking dosing station dam on Route 3.

Water from the Black River is bypassing the first phase of water treatment, forcing the city to use more chemicals to treat the water.

That costs the city more money.

This problem is not new; the first phase of this project started a few years ago.

"That leakage went from 1.5 million gallons a day to about one-half a million gallons per day, which is significantly better, but still not good enough," said City Water Superintendent Michael Sligar.

The city says the project should be completed by August.
