One of the ideas Gov. Andrew Cuomo talked about in his State of the State address Wednesday was to study building a "rooftop" highway for the north country.
That idea is being met with praise by some St. Lawrence County lawmakers. Supporters of the four-lane highway say there needs to be a better connection from Interstate 81 in Watertown to I87 in Clinton County
"People have been saying for years we need to get the governor's attention and get this project off the ground," said Don Peck, who is vice chair of the St. Lawrence County Legislature.
"I think we have the governor's attention and we want to thank him for putting this in the State of the State budget to do a study to get this highway done," he said.
"It'd be the biggest impact on St. Lawrence County since the St. Lawrence Seaway."
Peck was among a contingent of county officials who was in Albany to hear the governor speak about the study.
