DEC To Stop Selling Sporting Licenses in State Office Building

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Law Enforcement Office in Watertown's Dulles State Office Building plans to discontinue selling sporting licenses.

The DEC says there are plenty of private vendors in the Watertown area.

Officials said people can also buy licenses over the phone and online.

"The decision to stop selling licenses was not an easy one," DEC Regional Director Judy Drabicki said in a prepared statement. "However, this action will allow us to redeploy resources within the regional Law Enforcement office while the public can still buy sporting licenses at 38 locations in the county."

The DEC says few people come to the State Office Building to buy licenses.

There are currently 7 other locations in Watertown, and 38 within Jefferson County, where licenses can be purchased.

The full list of vendors can be found on the DEC website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6101.html and follow the link below "How to Purchase a Sporting License."

To purchase a sporting license over the phone, please contact 1-866-933-2257.

The office will discontinue selling licenses on Friday, May 18.
