Police: DNA Links Massena Man to Sexual Assault

A 29 year old Massena man, who police say was never considered a suspect in the alleged sexual assault on an 86 year old woman that  happened 3 years ago, has been caught.

Police say a break in the cold case came over the weekend through a DNA data bank match.

Jason Tassie of 8 Tracy Street faces felony charges of second-degree aggravated sexual assault and first-degree burglary.

Crime scene evidence collected the night of the August 8, 2009 attack was put into the state's DNA data bank.

But it wasn't until Tassie recently submitted a DNA sample for a menacing conviction that he was linked to the alleged sexual assault of the  elderly victim.

Police Investigator Joe Brown told us "we always new someday we were going to get a match."

Tassie was taken into custody by police without incident Saturday morning.

Police say the victim in the attack was described as "very happy" and "overwhelmed" when told of Tassie's arrest.

Tassie remains jailed on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
