'Day To Remember' Honors Watertown Teen Who Committed SuicideIt's not just a Facebook page, to friends and family who knew Erin Foley, it's a movement. "It's a tragedy, what happened, but we can learn from it. We can make it better by helping other people in her situation," said Erin's friend Dani Fleming. The Watertown High senior committed suicide. Friends and family say she was a victim of emotional bullying and felt pressured by school. "Our actions, our words, everything matters. Like, it doesn't, they don't go away for some people, they stick with you forever," Fleming said. School Superintendent Terry Fralick says he isn't aware Foley was bullied, but, he says that doesn't mean it didn't happen. In order to help other students in Foley's situation, "A Day To Remember" was created. It asks people to write the word "love" on their arm and, simply, treat everyone with care. "It's a very simple idea," said "A Day To Remember" creator Patrick Fleming. "It's basically looking out for the well-being of everybody around you. You want to see them happy. You want to see them successful. You want to look out for them and make sure they're appreciated," he said. It's a simple idea that's taking off. People all over the north country - and the world - were posting messages in support. "Everyone in school, they had it written on their arms. It was just, like, I was amazed," Dani Fleming said. Over 12,000 people have joined the Facebook page in support of Foley and her legacy. |
