Death Of Potsdam Youth Ruled Homicide

The death of 12 year old Garrett Phillips has been ruled a homicide.

Potsdam Village Police say that's the initial finding of an autopsy performed earlier this week at Albany Medical Center.

The Potsdam youth was found unconscious and unresponsive Monday evening in his 100 Market Street apartment. He was pronounced dead three hours later at the local hospital after lifesaving methods proved unsuccessful.

Police say they held off releasing the autopsy results until after the boy's funeral Friday morning out of respect for the family.

Other autopsy information, they say, will not be released until after they receive the final report.

St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood said the family of Garrett Phillips has been informed about the cause of death.

Police continue to say they do not have a suspect or a person of interest in the case.

Police ask people with information in the case to call the police department at 315-265-2121.
