Authorities say a Schenectady- area man who was diving in the St. Lawrence River off Wellesley Island Friday died as a result of an air embolism.

Jefferson County sheriff's deputies say the embolism that killed 60 year old David Remling of Delanson, N.Y. was the result of rapid decompression after a 174-foot dive.

Deputies say those were the findings of medical examiner Dr. Samuel Livingstone.

Remling was unconscious when he was pulled from the river shortly after noon Friday.

He was taken to Chaulk's Marina at Fisher's Landing, then by ambulance to River Hospital in Alexandria Bay.

Deputies say they continue to investigate and anyone with  information can call 315-788-1441.
