Dobbins Auto Salvage Yard To Be Auctioned Off Saturday

Hundreds of cars and trucks from the 1920s to the 1990s fill the landscape at Dobbins Auto Salvage Yard in Adams.

There all up for auction Saturday.

Owner Gordon Dobbins, closing in on eight decades old himself, says it's time to cash in.

"An auction is a big gamble and at my age i'm just going to sell and what they bring is what they bring," he said.

The Dobbins Auto Salvage Yard once had 10,000 cars and was considered the largest salvage yard in the state.

Now it's down to a fraction of that.

But there are plenty of vintage makes, including a 1940s Lincoln, a 1957 Buick, a 1960s Studebaker and a Chevy Corvair.

Most of the cars, you're not exactly going to drive off the lot.

But some of the parts, to the right person, are worth their weight in gold.

A couple of salvage dealers from Long Island want a piece of the action.

"There's a lot of car collectors, a lot of hot rod guys always looking for replacement parts and this is the only place you find them in," said one of those dealers, who wanted to be identified only as "Boots."

There are several fully-restored cars up for auction, including a 1930 Model-A.
