Locally Made Dog Treats Have Pooches Begging For More

Tools

It all started with a dog and a passion.

"I just have a passion for animals and anything that I can do to help them better their life is what I'm here for," said Donna Russell, who has been making doggie treats out of her home in LaFargeville for over a year.

The name of her business is 4 Paws Barkerie and she makes every treat herself.

For local food gurus, she only uses ingredients that are grown and produced in Jefferson County.

She says it's all about making high-quality and all-natural products for pups.

For example, all her flour grain is grown at Old McDonald's Farm in Sackets Harbor.

"I'm trying to help dog owners have better choices for their dogs with product that is local," she said.

And sometimes Donna even gets to bake with a special helper, her granddaughter Chelsea Russell.

"All the time I get to go to my grandma's house and I get to help her. I love doing dog treats with her," said Chelsea.

Do you like celebrating your dog's birthday? If so, Donna makes doggie birthday cakes and gift baskets too.

Donna's dog, Max, has taste-tested the treats and he approves.

If you'd like some doggie treats of your own, you can order them on Donna's website 4pawsbarkerie.com.

There you'll find a list of treats and flavors, including peanut butter and gluten-free banana berry (for dogs with allergies).
