Don't Throw Your Leaves Away, Give Them Away

Tools

Have you raked up autumn leaves?  Don't throw them away - put them to good use.

Cornell Coperative Extension of Jefferson County is kicking off its 1st Annual Leaf Exchange.

Instead of putting your bags of leaves curbside for pickup, bring them to the extension office in Watertown on Saturday morning.

People interested in using the leaves for mulch or making compost, can pick up the leaves for free.

"If they're thrown away in the landfill, this really can never be used again," said Sayre Stevens, recycling and solid waste educator.

The leaf exchange will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at cooperative extension office at 203 North Hamilton Street.
