Dr. Tries To Help Patients Obtain Medical Records

Tools

If you were one of the hundreds of patients of the now-dissolved Jefferson Eye Surgeons, your medical records are now now in Syracuse unless you have already taken action to have them released.

Patricia Frailey is one of many patients once again being treated by Dr. David Ewing-Chow at his former River Hospital office, which along with his Watertown office, had been closed for some three months.

During that time, Dr. Ewing-Chow and Dr. Gregory Joy legally dissolved their partnership and Dr. Ewing-Chow reorganized.

That process ended with litigation and a court-appointed middleman, Practice Resources LLC out of Syracuse, has control of patient records.

"They are the gatekeepers to release the records to any physician that requests the records provided they have a Department of Health HIPPAA approved medical record release signed by the patient," said Dr. Ewing-Chow.

That process hasn't been easy.

In fact, Patricia requested her records in May and the office still doesn't have them.

To get records released, patients can call Practice Resources at 459-6363 for recorded instructions or call Dr. Ewing-Chow's office at 681-6379.

Dr. Ewing-Chow tells us that all efforts by his office to get the process expedited have failed.

We tried tried to contact Practice Resources, but were unsuccessful.

If you have already requested your records be released, it's a good idea to contact the doctor where they are being sent to see if they were received.
