6 Clarkson Swimmers Charged In Underage Drinking Party
Eight people, including six members of Clarkson University's swim team, have been arrested for allegedly serving alcohol to underage drinkers attending two separate parties.
Potsdam police say seven of the accused are Clarkson University students.
The eighth attends SUNY Potsdam.
The Clarkson students are:
- Paul Telesca, 22, of Liverpool, N.Y.
The underage drinking party is alleged to have been held by several Clarkson University student athletes the weekend of November 18 inside a Bay Street residence, known as the "Clarkson Swim House."
Police said upwards of 30 to 40 people attended the party that ended with five teenagers being hospitalized for acute alcohol poisoning.
Six members of the university's swim team and a seventh Clarkson student were each charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of first-degree unlawfully dealing with a minor and a single count of prohibited sale of alcohol.
Police said the students were charging $5 admission to the invitation-only Bay Street house party, which included a variety of alcoholic beverages, including liquor, beer and vodka shots.
With the exception of Gaido, all of the suspects are members of Clarkson's swim team, the university said.
Once the Bay Street party ended, police said several party goers went to the North Country Manor apartment of 20 year old SUNY Potsdam student Richard Zimmerman, of Fishers, N.Y., who allegedly served them more alcohol in his Market Street residence.
