Eisenhower Lock Visitors' Center Opens For The Season

The visitors' center at Eisenhower Lock near Massena is open for the season.

Officials with the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation say the center opened Friday morning.

It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A gift shop operated by the Massena Chamber of Commerce offers Seaway memorabilia and items from local vendors. It's open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Seaway officials say the visitors' center is a good place to watch the roughly 3,000 ships that pass through the Seaway each year.

The ships carry a wide variety of cargoes including grains, iron ore, coal, steel stone, steel slabs and project cargoes.

The road to the center is opposite the St. Lawrence Centre Mall main entrance on Route 37. The visitors' center entrance is 1.5 miles on the right.
