Elks' Soccer Shoot 'Kicks Off' Fall
The North-Central New York District of the Elks Club kicked off fall -- with kicking.
It was a soccer shoot at the Lowville lodge Sunday morning. Boys and girls as old as 13 participated.
Soccer is still a growing sport in America. A study last year found there's at least one soccer player in 30 percent of households.
The kids can tell you why.
"It's fun and, like, when you play and they don't stop play all the time," said Jonathan Lyndaker, who won the boys' 8 and 9 year old category, "you can just keep playing and stuff."
"We mostly want to teach good sportsmanship and camaraderie," said the north-central district's James Chartrand, "and it's a lot of fun for the kids to get out of the house."
The winners move on to the regional competition in Boonville in two weeks.
