End Could Be In Sight For Government Shutdown

There could finally be some movement toward reopening the federal government.

The news came Monday afternoon from north country Congressman Bill Owens.

He tells 7 News discussions were underway Monday in the Senate and he hopes there'll be a vote by Tuesday.

"It will be a plan, at least as we're hearing, and all of this is obviously third and fourth-hand, but that we'll open the government, we believe, past January 1 and would extend the debt ceiling until sometime into early winter," said Owens (D. - 21st District).

Owens says that would give everyone time for serious negotiations on a long term solution.

The shutdown is entering its third week.
