A merger between a St. Lawrence County engineering firm and a Michigan company could bring new jobs and new opportunities.

Owners of Burley-Guminiak of Canton and Michigan-based C2AE officially sealed the deal at a signing ceremony.

The 12-member engineering team at Burley-Guminiak will now operate under the Michigan company's umbrella as Capital Consultants Architecture and Engineering.

Their job will be to provide water and waste-water system design and site engineering.

Company officials say the merger will allow for the creation of a handful of new jobs over the next few years.

"We can provide more services to more clients," said CEO Bill Kimble, "so it's a geographic expansion for C2AE into New York."

"We obviously have several offices in the state of Michigan and we look forward to providing those services to the clients."

Since 1996, the local firm has completed design on more than 1 million feet of water main and many waste-water facilities valued at close to $150 million.
