Fallen Firefighter's Legacy Used To Help Others
The Garrett Loomis Foundation held an event over the weekend to make sure history doesn't repeat itself.
The foundation held its second annual fire safety and educational series.
The event is in honor of fallen firefighter Garrett Loomis, who died battling a silo fire in 2010.
This year's seminar was on building safety.
Organizers say consistent training can help save a firefighter's life.
"We're just giving them a valuable tool to put in their toolbox to take a step back, look at the big scene and make better fire ground or emergency scene decisions," said the foundation's Robert Tennies.
"If we don't learn new things, then we're always going to repeat history and sometimes history is good, sometimes history is not good," said T.G. Kolb, a city of Watertown fire captain.
The event was free and open to firefighters and other emergency responders.
