Feedback: Carthage Gives Away Old Trophies

In the dark basement of Carthage High School, Athletic Director Bob Alexander had to clean out some space.

The area was piled with approximately 100 old trophies - some dating back to the 1930s.

He brought them out and set them on a table.   

"When we were sorting through it, the first thought was - this is junk, let's throw it away. But I didn't think that was right," said Alexander.

The school decided to give the trophies away in May.

People entered their names to get the trophies.

If more than one person wanted the same trophy, a name was drawn.

For Carthage boys lacrosse coach Kirk Ventiquattro, checking out the old school trophies is a trip down memory lane.

Ventiquattro, who's been in Carthage for most of his 51 years, knows the trophies can mean a lot. 

"I know its just wood and engraving, but for some people, it's the fondest memories of their lives," he said.

The oldest trophy the school gave away was from 1964.

The older trophies, like the ones from the 1930s and 1950s were polished up and placed in the school's main trophy case.
