Feedback: Drivers Abuse Workers At Canton Construction Site

On Main Street in Canton, you're likely to find lengthy traffic jams and irate motorists looking to vent their frustrations anyway they can.

"This is horrible. Yesterday we were caught in line for about an hour and 40 minutes trying to get to class. It's absolutely crazy," said upset driver Joshua Good.

Workers involved in the Main Street reconstruction project have seen aggravation and frustration from motorists.

Just ask flagger Susan Fenlong.

"There's some nasty name-calling. I got spit at last Thursday - not very nice," she said.

Work on the one-mile stretch of Route 11 through downtown has been going on for weeks.

Blocked-off streets and detours are an everyday occurrence.

But heavy traffic congestion is starting to take a toll.

As tempers continue to flare over delays, motorists are being advised to use patience and try to avoid the construction site whenever possible.

"Crews are working as fast as they can to move traffic, but there's an overriding factor that's being missed by the motorists in general. It's a safety factor. There's a lot of workmen around, a lot of moving machinery, a lot of trucks coming and going," said interim Canton Police Chief Victor Rycroft.

While the reconstruction work has been a hardship on drivers, downtown businesses and even construction workers, the project is moving closer to completion with every passing day.
