Feedback: Electric Cars & Chargers Could Come To Watertown

If you're traveling in an electric car, you'll need an electric vehicle charging station. 

National Grid has won a $1 million state grant to set up charging stations and is looking at Watertown for at least one of them.

"So 67 EV stations will be installed throughout the upstate market from Buffalo to Albany," said Virginia Limmiatis of National Grid.

The utility is offering to pay most of the installation cost. 

The city of Watertown would have to supply the power.

"I'm kind of excited over this. I think this is interesting. The owners are going to come in. They'll charge their cars and go away with a smile," said Watertown Department of Public Works Superintendent Gene Hayes.

National Grid is looking for public parking areas.

Once the electric fill-up station is installed, all you'll need is some electric cars.

"If you build it, they will come. We're championing that notion for our upstate customers," said Limmiatis.

So far, the city council has yet to even discuss the proposal.

But National Grid wants to move fast.

It wants the EV charge stations installed this winter.
