Feedback: Man Wants To Save Old Theater At Madison Barracks

David Harrienger restored the old hospital's Steward's Quarters in Sackets Harbor to what is now his home.

He says he would like to do the same thing with the old theatre at Madison Barracks.

"It's very important to keep historical property for people to look at and enjoy for years and years," said Harrienger.

Wednesday night, Sackets Harbor residents packed the municipal building to say why they think the old mess hall and theatre at Madison Barracks should not be torn down by their owner, developer Lawler Realty.

The owner said restoring the properties would cost millions of dollars, but Harrienger says he could start with restoring the outside of the theatre for much less.

Harrienger says if he purchased the building, he'd ask his fellow Sackets Harbor residents what to do with it.

But, he thinks it should be restored back to what it was a theatre.

Whether that will happen remains to be seen.

Now it's up to Harrienger to make the next move, to turn what some consider to be an eyesore into something of beauty.
