Feedback: Potsdam Plans RV Park, Not Everyone Happy
An RV park planned for Potsdam's Sandstoner Park is drawing fire from people who live near-by.
Village government is proposing a 12 space park with water and electricity hook-ups, places for fires and picnic tables. The RV park would be built on what is now a parking lot at Sandstoner Park.
"Potsdam is angling to become a tourist destination in the north country region of the state. We're working very hard to develop our riverfront, waterfront assets," said Fred Hanss, planning and development director.
Village and town governments would both contribute to the price of the RV park, and the village is seeking a grant for some of the cost.
The RV park could be completed in 2015.
"The RVs would really enhance our ability to attract tourists to stay more than a day," said Marie Regan, town supervisor.
All that said, you can find opposition to the park across the street from where it would be built.
"I don't think they're taking into consideration the people who live on the street, the privacy infringements, the drop in our property values, to no longer to be able to have my windows open at night if there's open fires across the street," said Neika Mayo.
