Now playing at Regal Cinemas at the Salmon Run Mall - nothing! "I came in to see 'Despicable Me' and I see all these bars and stuff," said movie goer Osie Rolle. Hollywood has come to a halt as far as Watertown is concerned. Regal Entertainment says its Watertown theaters will be closed until spring. They have to be demolished because the bigger and better Salmon Run Stadium 12 is now under construction. The new movie complex will be state of the art with real 3-D, digital projection and stadium seating. But that's next spring. What about now? "It kind of sucks. Now I have got to drive all the way to Syracuse to go to a movie theater," said movie fan Daniel Dorcelus. "They say it's all the way to spring? I can't wait that long," said Jennifer Phelps, another movie fan. But with wall-to-wall screens, 12 theaters and more than 2,000 seats, Regal and mall officials say the wait will be worth it. In the meantime, Watertown's business community sees an opportunity. "Perhaps maybe some of the other regional...smaller movie venues that are going to be picking up. That would be a nice bump for all of those folks," said Peter Whitmore of the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce. Regal Cinemas, take two, will be here before you know it. |
