Feet of Lake Effect Snow to Hit North Country this Week

Meteorologists are predicting a four day event of Lake Effect to drop more than a foot of snow in Watertown and more than four feet in the Tug Hill.

The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning from 11 am Monday to 1 pm Wednesday.

According to 7news Meteorologist Joe LaPlante, snow will begin to fall Monday afternoon, impacting Watertown and the surrounding areas.

Then around 10 pm Monday, the lake effect band will shift southward to the snow belt region including the Tug Hill.

From there, the band will be active, moving north and south.

Throughout the storm, LaPlante anticipates heavy snow to fall from the band at a rate of 1 to 2 inches an hour. The storm should stop by Thursday morning, according to LaPlante.

As for snow totals, LaPlante predicts the Tug Hill to receive 4 feet by Thursday and Watertown to end up with a foot. Areas in Saint Lawrence County will receive relatively little snow.
